Comprehensive Mental Health Services, Inc. (CMHS) is a non-profit community mental health center that has been providing caring services for over 50 years. CMHS is the behavioral health provider for all of Eastern Jackson County and provides residential and outpatient substance use services to the Urban Core of Kansas City.
CMHS believes that every member of our community deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion. Behavioral heath issues and recovery from substance use should not be barriers to living a happy, healthy, fulfilling life. Behavioral Crisis Center (BCC), a Jackson County behavioral health crisis facility. The BCC is open to anyone experiencing a mental health or substance-use crisis; we welcome you to walk in today, to start getting the help you need right away.

CMHS understands the importance of eliminating barriers for our community members to get in for the services they desire. To that end we have adopted an Open Access process for intake for new consumers.
The mission of Outpatient Services is to promote mental health and wellness by providing licensed professional counselors who can listen, help a person evaluate their needs, and assist in the creation of a plan of action to successfully handle life’s struggles.

CMHS is able to partner with our area school districts to provide elementary, middle school and high school students the tools they need to advocate for themselves and to overcome trauma without turning to drug use or suicide.
We offer culturally specific services including case management, education, prevention, individual and family therapy, group education, medication assisted treatment (MAT) and housing and job resources.
We partner with area districts to provide the best support to students, families and school faculty. School-Based Services were created as an innovative approach to provide rapid access to care in the school setting.
